Voting in Nigeria today
Maybe we are ngmi.
As part of my commitment to being a good citizen is always going out to vote where necessary. This elections are actually the most important for citizens but we definitely don’t think so because presidents are the easiest to drag.
First, I didn’t know who to vote for. My ballot papers had only three political parties on them. Two of whom I’ve never seen their candidates, one of which I have just seen the posters along the road. Names not stored in my memory.
We always have to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea with Nigerian elections and we often have to settle in the goodness of your heart to the less chaotic option.
That’s the Nigerian way. It speaks across businesses and services. The just-manage-it culture is instill down to our elections. This time you don’t know the good you are even trying to buy. Eyes opened but sight in existent because now you can see the parties but don’t know who to choose to lead you.
We are Ngmi. I try to see. A lot of people are disenfranchised because their PVCs and Polling Units are far from each other. Especially that there wasn’t a window to transfer voters cards from the electoral commission.
We need to improve this like this. We cannot get better if people might have to travel to vote, especially if the card is a permanent one. Technology has surely improved enough to give us something we can use.
Electoral officers came late. Their call time was 8am but three polling units and at 10am, there were no sight of poll officers. The lack of keeping to time is a Nigerian factor and then that’s another thing we just have to manage.
Nobody can be held responsible for that kind of thing because today LASIEC even didn’t pick calls of the phone number available on their website. There is a lack of commitment in delivery to the citizens. The office can surely employ better people but elections are as important as our lives.
Political parties are joking. Aside the incumbent party, there were barely activities that show that they prepared for elections. No campaigns. No polling unit agents???
I don’t know why we are in a country with classless politics and politicians. They don’t even take us seriously enough to have someone defend their votes at PUs. All the best sha to them.
Nigerians have a very shallow understanding of politics and it scares me. Because why is my bro (that is not my brother) assuming that because a party is not on the ballot paper, LASIEC was disenfranchising him? That’s weird, your party didn’t field a candidate my bro, stop wailing.
but hey, we need to do better. We can take an extra step in understanding the polity or follow @learnpoliticsng to understand good.
this is a rant, read seriously but understanding not so seriously. Sre you in 2027.
